Doctor by the Universidade da Coruña with the thesis Economic analysis of the loss of productive factors social and labor inclusion of the prison population of Galicia (Spain) 2016. Supervised by Dr. Isabel Novo Corti.

Maria Barreiro-Gen is currently working at the University of A Coruna (UDC), Spain. She has also worked as Associate Professor at the University of Gävle (Sweden), and in the National Distance Education University (UNED). She holds a Bachelor in Business, a Bachelor in Law, and a Master in Public Policies. She earned her PhD on Economics (graduated with honours) in 2016 in the UDC, Spain. Her degrees allowed her to learn from different disciplines. For more than ten years, she has been researching on public policies, sustainable organisations, economic development, gender issues, business and management, and education, from an international to a local perspective. She has also taught in different countries, disciplines (e.g. economics, management, law, engineering), and environments (face-to-face and online). Barreiro-Gen has published more than 40 articles, receiving research awards for some of them (e.g., “outstanding paper” in the Emerald Literati Awards). She has also reviewed and edited scientific articles in prestigious journals. She has collaborated with academics from other countries (e.g. South Africa, México, Uk, Italy, Portugal), participating in EU and national projects (e.g., co-supervising a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Student). She has worked with different social actors, such as EU ports, SMEs, and football clubs. She has presented a high level of dissemination of research and outreach, having participated in more than 30 conferences worldwide.
