Abstract

Lexical combinations such as confirm hypothesis, problem lies or deep analysis, known as collocations, play a crucial role in academic prose, since they serve to refer to the prototypical procedures and activities of scientific research. Collocations, as well as other phraseological units, predominate in all academic texts. However, despite the increasing number of studies on Spanish academic writing, not enough attention has been devoted to the identification of the phraseology of academic discourse and to the creation of lexicographic tools that integrate it. To fill this gap, the aim of this thesis is to automatically identify Spanish academic collocations and establish a reference list to feed an online aid tool for academic writing. Likewise, in order to obtain information on the differences between expert and novice texts, a contrastive analysis based on the concept of lexical complexity is performed. The results of this analysis are used to develop a tool focused on the evaluation of the collocational profile of academic texts.
