Abstract

Juan Marmolejo and Juan Agraz are two 15th-century poets with scarce production —especially the former’s—, for which they have passed unnoticed for critics. This work offers the edition of their complete works, scattered on different sources, which has turned out to be far more significant than what we have thought. The study of the text transmission process and their poetics precede the edition of the poems, but it was also necessary to approach the poets’ pathway through life, based on the information in the texts and other sources. Marmolejo shares love poetry skills with several poets linked to the Crown of Aragón and goes deep into the satirical field with Juan Agraz: a peculiar dispute between them reveals their knowledge of writing techniques like the ajuda and the tensó, very uncommon in Spanish cancionero poetry. Beyond his role in this poetic exchange, Juan Agraz shares verses with other authors of the stature of Santillana, Mena and Montoro, but also displays his poetic art in the fields of love, eulogy… In short, Marmolejo and Agraz are representative writers of their time.
