Resumen

In this Thesis, different methodologies to study compound flood events in estuaries and coastal rivers are analyzed and discussed. Floods in these areas result from the complex interaction of various dynamics, with different scales and correlations. Three potential significant flood risks areas that represent the Galician reality have been selected from the entire territory of Galicia Coast. Three methodologies to analyse the compound flood events have been applied considering the dynamics of river flow, astronomical tide, and surge defined by simultaneous synthetic series previously generated. The tradictional methodoly assuming the dynamics are independent and carry out a hydraulic simulation considering the same return period in each dynamic. The second methodology called multivariant, determinates the joint extreme distribution function of the main dynamics and link it to 2D hydrodynamic modeling. The last methodology, the continuous simulations approach, involves simulating the dynamical flood response to continuous time series of the dynamics by using the same 2D hydrodynamic model. With the resulting level series, a one-dimensional statistical analysis is carried out to determine the return period
