Abstract

The present research work aims at contributing to a thorough education of students majoring in Hotel and Tourism in an Ecuadorian public university by employing the English courses to develop their language skills as well as their critical thinking. We propose the performance of green advertising assessment tasks, namely collaborative writing and group discussions, and to follow an ecolinguistic approach in education. Additionally, the students will create their own advertisements, as the final product of a project developed during the course. This dissertation has been structured in six chapters: 1) introduction, the context, circumstances in which this study has emerged, as well as main objectives, 2) an ample literary review embraces several contents, such as the communicative language approach, task-based instruction, project-based learning, and the importance of critical thinking when learning a foreign language. Next, one of the main issues in this research study, the ecological approach, is examined, 3) the methodology employed to carry out the study, 4) the results and discussion, 5) a teaching and learning project, 6) the conclusions obtained and some ideas for further research, and it finishes with references and appendixes.
