Abstract

The human body can be seen as a multibody system: a set of mobile solids linked by joints. This allows the application of multibody dynamics (computationally efficient methods for setting and solving the equations of motion of these systems) to the analysis and simulation of human movements. In this thesis, the forward dynamics approach is applied, meaning that the equations of motion are integrated in time, to the analysis of the human gait of healthy and spinal cord injured subjects, these last able to walk with the help of orthoses and crutches, and to the simulation of behind-armor ballistic impacts onto the human head-neck set.
