Abstract

Overview: This dataset supports research on a novel droplet transport mechanism called droplet fibrotaxis, which uses an anisotropic fiber-reinforced deformable solid to achieve spontaneous and gradient-free droplet transport. Unlike most passive droplet transport strategies that rely on spatial variations of material properties to drive droplet motion, fibrotaxis enables controllable droplet velocity and long-range droplet transport.

Context and Objective: The primary objective of this dataset is to explain the mechanism of droplet fibrotaxis and to assess the influence of parameters such as fluid wettability, fiber orientation, anisotropy strength, and elastocapillary number on droplet motion. We believe fibrotaxis has potential applications in self-cleaning surfaces, water harvesting, and medical diagnostics.

Data Collection: The data in this repository were collected from numerical simulations of multi-component fluid-structure interaction models [1, 2]. More details on fibrotaxis can be found in the preprint [3].

References

J. Bueno, H. Casquero, Y. Bazilevs and H.
