Resumen

The work of many researches over the last forty years led to the definition of a new field of Chemistry, which Jean M, Lehn (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1987) has proposed calling "Supramolecular Chemistry" to refer to the complex entities formed by the association of two or more chemical species held together by non covalent intermolecular forces. The introduction of this contribution is a short review of concepts and new possibilities of this new field of chemistry, whereas in the section of results we report sorne applications of the supramolecular chemistry to mechanistic studies in catalysis and/or inhihition of reactions that involve nitrosocompounds. We refer mainly to studies in aqueous micellar medium and in aqueous cyclodextrin solutions, as representative examples of flexible and rigid supramolecular entities, respectively.
