Abstract

The aim of this study is to improve the cycle efficiency by associating the improvements based on: (a) reducing energy losses in the heat rejection part of the cycle by contributing with the association of the concepts of condensation under quasi-critical pressure and temperature at ambient temperature, (b) residual heat recovery by regeneration and (c) properly chosen working fluids where carbon dioxide, ethane and xenon are considered under a criterion that obeys to the fact that they can be condensed at ambient temperature. The research compares several organic working fluids such as ethane xenon and carbon dioxide, operating under the proposed trans-critical Rankine cycle structures, which renders interesting thermal efficiencies.
