Abstract

Background: The World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT) states that Physiotherapy is responsible to provide services to individuals and populations to maintain and restore their functional ability threatened by aging, injury or diseases. Also, WCPT recognizes that the best way to achieve this objective is through evidence based practice (EBP). Purpose: To define EBP in the context of physiotherapy´s practice and analyze the state of art in this topic. Methods: Physiotherapy scientific production data was collected through different databases, institution webpages and clasiffications. EBP literature was analized. Results: A progressive increase of scientific production was confirm, either quality or quantity. Also, the impact in international journals has improved. At a national level, journals have improved their quality but not enough to achieve the international standards. A noticeably improvement in the number of PhDs, doctoral thesis presented and “sexenio” (six year period of research activity evaluation) was observed. Conclusions: Physiotherapy EBP is more and more feasible due to the growing in clinical research. Nowadays, still exist space to the progress in the research and publications quality in physiotherapy.
