Resumen

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of podiatric pathology in people with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy and to explore their general quality of life regarding foot health, functionality and foot pain, and their associated variables. Methodology: Observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study of prevalence (Breast Unit and Department of Oncology of the University Hospital of A Coruña, Spain). People with breast cancer, over age, and undergoing chemotherapy were studied (n=117; ±9% accuracy, 95% confidence). Sociodemographic, disease and podiatric variables were studied. Questionnaires were used to the study of quality of life, functionality and foot pain. Current ethical-legal aspects were followed. Results: Podiatric pathology was very prevalent and diverse. 77.8% presented foot pain and 38.6% needed to delay chemotherapy treatment due to podiatric adverse effects. Aspects related to footwear and foot health stand out as the most affected in the questionnaires studied. Conclusions: Podiatric adverse effects represent health problems of great relevance for the quality of life. Further research in foot health care from a holistic and comprehensive perspective in Podiatry is needed.
