Resumen

As Thomas Lockwood and Edgar Papke affirm, in their book, Innovation by Design (2017), now companies of all types and sizes are determined to be innovative, since the promotion of this discipline is among their main priorities, however, they also They recognize that organizations daily struggle with how to engage in their cultures the changes necessary to maximize their innovative goals. In this sense, the purpose of this research is to explore the determinants of innovation in services in tourism companies in southern Ecuador. To achieve this general objective, three of a specific nature are proposed: a) Determine the influence of human capital in the development of the innovation process in tourism service companies, b) Determine the influence of cooperation in the development of the innovation process in tourist service companies and c) Know the attitude and predisposition of managers to adopt innovative practices in tourist service companies. For this, a mixed research methodology is developed. In the first place, a study with a quantitative approach is implemented in order to explore to what extent the variables are related: human capital and cooperation with the innovation process, where the survey is used as a tool for collecting information and analysis. Secondly, a study with a qualitative approach is carried out in order to obtain a closer and more real vision of the innovation practices that are carried out. In this phase, the structured interview was used, being applied in 14 significant tourism companies. The quantitative results indicate that the dependency relationship between the study variables is weak, while the quantitative findings show an initial development of innovation practices in services.
