Resumen
The article presents a survey and relational analysis of dramatic literature in translation (DLT) in the Galician publishing sector during the period 1978-2008. The study consists of a quantitative-qualitative analysis of a bibliographical database of DLT (found in Samartim and Cernadas 2020a), a description of the agents and institutions involved in DLT (publishers, authors and translators), and an examination of the main characteristics and strategies of these agents, including their location within the publishing sector (public, private or university) and the source language of the translations they produced. The analysis shows importation by all of the agents from European languages only (French, Spanish and English for the most part, followed by Italian, Greek/Latin and German) and the adoption by the Galician publishing institutions account for a fifth of the total production, based on a strategy fo partnership with prominent private Galician publishing houses (e.g. Galaxia). Academic publishing accounts for the same proportion, thanks in large part to the activites of the University of A Coruña's Biblioteca Francisco Pillado Mayor imprint, an institutional space which has proved a model of careful editorial planning, consistency and continuity. In relation to private publishing, the results highlight the presence of translations from Castilian, both as a way of retrieving texts originally written in Castilian by agents from the Galician tradition, and as a way of importing literature for children and young adults into Galician.
