Abstract

The Liber medicinalis Collegii Balliolensis contains an acephalous recipe, whose title, medical indications and some ingredients have disappeared. Its title also does not appear in the index of chapters that precedes the book. The identification of two parallel recipes in Vatican manuscripts allows us to know that it is an Electuarium dia prassiu maior that forms a pair with thefollowing recipe, which has thesametitle. Two conclusions can be drawn from this: 1) that the two electuaries circulated together as part of the book from the beginning; 2) that the acephalous recipe does not appear in the index of chapters because this index was added later, when the recipe had already lost its initial half as a result of a transmission accident.
