Abstract

This study seeks to contribute to the teaching of French for Specific Purposes (FSP) in the automotive sector through the analysis of the linguistic context of automotive engineers. In analysing the specificities of this public, this dissertation proposes to determine if there is a standard for needs and wants of students in this field. Initially, we will highlight the status of FSP as compared to French as a Foreign Language. Secondly, we will study the learning environment, the profile and the linguistic and learning needs of engineers studying French in three important automotive companies. Finally, a survey about three representative professional French books will be carried out for the purpose of assessing their usefulness with our public.
