Resumo

Objective: To analyze the occupational performance of caregivers who take care of elderly people in a situation of dependence and who attend a care facility. Methods: A qualitative methodology study was combined with two assessment tools (EuroQol-5D-5L and Zarit Overload). Results: The categories are associated with the concept of older person, the perception of care, the support received and gender, the value about the care facility, and the role of caregivers. In terms of quality of life, the health status was rated at an average of 47 and 42% were overburdened. Conclusions: The caregivers who are involved in the daily care of dependent older people have an occupational imbalance and overload. The occupational performance of caregivers can be improved trough care facilities, obtaining positive results in their health and quality of life.
