Abstract

The pandemic due to the SARS-COV-2 disease has made it clear that global problems need to be faced with novel tools integrating constructive collaborations from diverse sectors of society. Somehow, our planet demands a drastic change in the use of its natural resources, necessary if we really want to continue progressing as a species and do not destroy the rich natural environment that surrounds us. In this work we approach the problem of optimization maritime navigation routes, by analysing in detail all the multidisciplinary aspects necessary to develop a meteorological routing system. With this objective, we will review academic aspects related to the modelling of wave propagation in the sea and we will describe basic but essential aspects related to the ship hydrodynamics and its behaviour during navigation. Finally, we will describe some computational algorithms that can be useful for the layout of optimal sea routes.
