Resumo

When there is confronted the study of the accessibility to an urban area, there is need to work with big quantity of spatial elements to which many variables and parameters linked. The development of the Systems of Geographical Information (GIS) has provided tools adapted for this type of works, going beyond to the simple generation, management and storage of information. These technologies allow a complex processing of information and later interpretation being able to display results in different ways and formats, even in Internet. Accessibility and the information about accessibility determine a measure of how to leave to point of the territory from given location, being very important to assure the quality of services and their operatibility. In the particular case of university campus that generate big volume of displacements of persons between buildings and common facilities and from different points of the city (even from other downtowns), need a few infrastructures and effective communications, as well as a clear and thorough information for the users, not only to optimize the access, but to eliminate barriers for persons with limited mobility, and to increase efficiency of services and transport resources. In this work of analysis of accessibility to the campus of the University of A Coruña, GIS technologies have been used to collect data, treatment of geospatials elements, calculations of accessibility, identification of difficult routes, etc. Reached results are visualized also using the potentialities of the GIS software. Cartography and other information is developed and published in a Web site using map servers to obtain an easy and free access.
