Las voces japonesas en la historia de la lexicografía española

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to study the introduction of words of Japanese origin in the Spanish language and its treatment in the main lexicographical works. The thesis is approached from a diachronic perspective that provides a detailed description about the evolution of Japanese words in the Spanish language from the middle of sixteenth century to the present time. The introductory part of the thesis addresses the common singularities that define the behaviour of Japanese words in the Spanish language. These characteristics include the introduction of the words, their use in the language and the lexicographical treatment received. The second part of the thesis focuses on the study of the historical evolution of each word. This philological study involves analysing the chronological introduction, the variations in graphic or graphic-phonetic representations, as well as etymological interpretation, grammatical information, the development of new meanings in the Spanish language or the limitation to the original Japanese meaning, and lastly the generation of derivative words
