Abstract

This study analyzes the creative and educational potential of indeterminacy in music education (secondary school). Through an experience based on collaborative group composition, students will experience the conception of aleatory music through elements of chance, the design of graphic notation and the creative role of the performers themselves. Through an action-research, a mixed data collection will be carried out, analyzing both the artistic results and the students’ impressions. The analysis will be completed with a focus group after a long period of time, in order to verify the significance of the proposal. The results confirm a meaningful assimilation of indeterminacy (in the short and long term), the improvement in interest and participation and the obtaining of musical examples "in the style" of historical references. The experience exemplifies how aleatory music can act as an inclusive medium towards music, in general, and towards composition in the classroom, specifically.
