Alice a través del tiempoevolución de la recepción de las adaptaciones de "Alice in Wonderland"

Abstract

Since the boat trip with the Liddell girls which inspired Lewis Carroll to write and publish Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland until our time more than a century and a half has passed. Presently, new audiovisual contents based on Alice’s story keep being announced and launched, the book can be read in more than one hundred languages and we can find a wide variety of products and services portraying its scenes and characters, from clothes to theme restaurants. How could this story live on until the point of having its own space in popular culture and keep being more and more relevant through the years? This thesis aims to answer that question and, in order to do it, it is necessary to set off on a journey similar to Alice’s one, in this case, through time and around the world. By means of the study and analysis of the context, not only of the original book but also its adaptations and sequels, their reception and the domestication according to these factors we can understand in which way the story has been updated. Carroll’s text already has qualities that make it timeless but, through the adaptation of its cultural references and moulding of its nonsense, Alice’s adventures have settled on in a way which is accessible and close to very different targets.
