Opciones estratégicas ante la contaminación marinaanálisis de las preferencias de los ciudadanos en el norte de Galicia (España)

Abstract

The marine environment provides, directly or indirectly, a wide range of benefits on humans that are not just economic but also on health and well-being. All these privileges are returned in the form of pollution. Human actions are destroying the marine living environment and with this the human environment itself. Attitudes to these problems are critical to eradicating pollution. Due to the magnitude of the problem, this paper analyses that would be willing to make people reduce marine pollution. For this, a study in different areas of Galicia with a comparison between the willingness to participate or to supports volunteer policies, in contrast to policies that imply assuming an economic cost to the citizen was performed (pay for higher prices and pay for higher taxes). The Logit model undertaken has allowed to distinguish the different factors that are influencing this willingness to participate in different policies. The results show that there is a greater predisposition to participate in volunteer work (free beach cleaning) than the willingness to assume higher prices or taxes. Also, results show that, even though people living on the coast are those who live with the problem, people who reside in the interior of Galicia would be more willing to engage in this type of action.
