Resumen
Introduction: Foot disorders are one of the biggest problems in people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The prescription of different types of foot orthoses is a common practice in these patients with pain in the feet. Although its effectiveness has not been rigorously evaluated. Patients and methods: This is a randomized clinical trial. At the beginning of the study, the analog visual pain scale and the foot function index were administered. Participants were randomly assigned to one of the study groups: Experimental Group A (custom-made foot orthoses for pronation control) and Control Group B (plantar support of non-adapted buffer material). After three months, the same questionnaires were administered as at the beginning. Results: The sample consists of a total of 17 patients with RA; 58.8 % Group A (experimental) and 41.2 % Group B (control). Comparing the means before and after the intervention in the different scales, in the control group there were no statistically significant differences. On the contrary, in the experimental group there is a statistically significant decrease in the visual analog scale and in different sections of the foot function index. Conclusions: According to the results of this study, custom-made foot orthoses in patients with RA could improve pain and foot function.
