In the present paper we present the idea that trauma is an extreme event, but of the same order as ordinary experiences and, consequently, its conceptualization as a unique linguistic or neurological element is not necessary. Recalling and re-elaborating the traumatic experience is a socially constructed task, in which the attention and the narratives cobuilt in therapy and with protective figures are the main tool in order to break the spell of the traumatic experience. This does not mean that “healing through speaking” is the only or the best intervention, but we suggest that the trauma therapy implies learning a language which, though inadequate to reflect the entire experience, will allow elaborating it and sharing it in order to integrate it into the whole of the biography and re-build the relationships with others. Through the transcripts of the second and the tenth sessions of a case of sexual violence, the work of narrative co-building in therapy and the changes in narrative quality and competence are shown
