The process they undertookhas culminated in theamendment of therelevant SOLAS regulations.Changescame intoforce onJanuary 1st, 2011; in these changes the new installationof asbestos containing materials (ACMs) on ships has been forbidden. This work analyses the evolutionof the international regulations related to this change. Theinvolvement ofthe implied parts (shipowners, shipyards, etc.) in the fulfillmentof thesestandards, as wellas the presenceand treatmentof these materialsonboardare also considered.
