Resumo
Reside in adequate housing is a fundamental aspect of our lives. The lack of access to a standardized housing leads to marginalization and social exclusion, limiting or preventing access to other basic goods and services. In Spain, when you talk about slums and substandard housing, the concept is associated with the Roma people. But to this housing problem, it is necessary to add that the Roma population continues to face serious problems of rejection by society. Both factors severely hinder their social and labour inclusion. This paper includes a comparative study of the actions carried out in various shanty towns in Galicia. The aim is to observe what extent these policies favour the social and labour inclusion of people affected, identifying strengths and weaknesses of the policies applied, as well as the opportunities and threats to its success. This study highlights the importance of promoting favourable attitudes to inclusion in both the minority and the majority, and stresses the importance of proper design of such policies by the government.
