Abstract

The creation and development of tourist routes has acquired a growing importance as part of a global strategy to attract tourists to a specific destination. Due to their relatively recent nature, urban cultural routes in Galicia have not yet reached a stage of maturity or have been the object of in-depth study with the necessary time perspective. The essential aim of this paper is to analyze the present situation of such itineraries in the Galicia’s principal cities, review their communication policy and the key factors that have been included to position them in line with the tourist offer of the destination. The result of this research outlines a map of cities and their main features regarding this issue and the challenges facing those responsible for their design and implementation. In addition, it proposes a set of tools and strategic perspectives that can be used for more efficient destination design and management.
