Resumen

In 2012, a survey was conducted with the main objective of measure the variables related to institutional pressures (coercive, normative and mimetic) that affected the implementation of socially responsible practices. The study focused on three, four and five star Hotels in Galicia and Northern Portugal and colleted the point of view of the managers of each Hotel. The survey was prepared according to the following information: the characteristics of the hotels, the socio-demographic characteristics of those surveyed, and a few indicators on the companies’ social responsibility towards the institucional hotel subsector. The technique used for the analysis of the data was the parcial least square method. The sample consisted of 109 valid questionnaires corresponding to a 30% response rate. A model was created using this technique in order to establish relationships between the institutional context and social responsibility one. The study confirms that women give more importance to social issues than men, and also that men give more importance to the economic dimension of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This can help the increasing of representation of women in executive posts in companies endowed with social orientation
