Resumen

This paper analyses the practical activities in textbooks for Primary School and first cycle of ESO (corresponding to three publishing houses of broad circulation) directed to the study of three contents (matter, animals and vegetables). The analysis is centred on the aims that these texts have and the conceptual and procedural contents that are treated. We have observed that practical activities are still very scarce; this causes that only a few conceptual aspects are experimentally treated. On the other hand, we have detected some deficiencies regarding the aims and procedures that can be taught through these texts, as they exclude practical activities directed to inquiry and the procedures related to it.
