Abstract
Objectives: The analysis of the efficiency of rehabilitation treatment of stroke is particularly important because the functional outcome depends on both the characteristics of the injury as well as the available structure. Methodology: The study of a cohort of 353 consecutive cases of patients who suffered a stroke admitted to our Rehabilitation Service (Hospital Marítimo de Oza) between January 2010 and September 2014. Functional status was quantified by the scale Functional Independence Measure (FIM) on admission and at discharge. The efficiency was considered as the ratio between profit and stay. The pattern of results and efficiency matrix are clinical management tools for the analy- sis of rehabilitation treatment. Efficiency, the pattern of results and efficiency matrix for the period 2010-2011 were compared with the period 2012-2014. Results: In the last 3 years, patients have an average age similar to previous years. No differences in etiology, laterality of the lesion, length of stay (LOS) and functional gains. The efficiency has increased one point compared to previous years. When the pattern of results is analyzed and matrix efficiency are compared, they show no differences between two groups. Conclusions: The FIM at admission and discharge is similar in both periods studied. The downward trend of LOS and increased functional gain is demonstrated, having increased efficiency in our service.
