Abstract
In this paper the idiomatic expressions originated by metaphor people are objects/machines are analysed en Galician and Spanish. Taking as a starting point some principles or tenets which could be included within Cognitive Linguistics, I have decided to analyse first the semantic and pragmatic foundations of this sort of metaphors (and other related processes such as metonymies and comparisons). Next, these expressions will be examined according to the contents of the main Spanish and Galician phraseological dictionaries. In the study itself, these units will be analysed considering not only the target domain (people and qualities that are relevant in this kind of idioms) but also the source domain (objects and machines that bring about metaphors): Since this is a constantly changing domain, I will try to demonstrate how new technologies get quickly incorporated into this process of metaphorisation.
