Abstract

The exile Spanish Civil War gave birth to hundreds of Republican magazines and newspapers. Two of these cultural magazines, Cuadernos Americanos (Mexico, 1942) and Realidad (Buenos Aires, 1947) were founded to support the intellectual production of refugees and the Latin American and European elite, to the extent that some authors have classified as purely Argentine and Mexican publications. Far from being confined in the rigid cage Spanish exodus, both magazines were opened to both Americas, Europe and the interior Spain. This essay analyzes the degree of Americanization of both publications through the study of the topics discussed in them, the origin of their staff as well as the advertising and information they provided.
