Abstract

Liberalization of the Spanish industry entails the introduction of important changes. In the Spanish case, as in other European countries, the binding planning of the generation investment is eliminated. It entails that the electricity companies have autonomy to make those investments where the price established in the wholesaler electricity market is set as a basic sign in such a decision. The elaboration of a simulation model, for the Spanish case, shows the presence of boom and bust cycles in the investment as a consequence of this process.
