Abstract

This work presents a critical exploration of some of the ways in which the most marginal of multicultural students of Spain have come to be represented through the current educational reform, or LOCE. The essay thus has three major aims: to identify the legitimating ideology behind this policy; to reveal the presence of other less evident and countervailing ideologies in both the discourse and the broader social and historical context of this law; and finally, to suggest some strategies for democratizing, from the school base, the production of official narratives on education, in an attempt to decenter their most biased of tenets..
