Abstract
The present study reinterprets the problem of motivation for academic performace from a cognitive perspective based on the theory of self-efficacy. Efficacy expectations are considered to mediate between subjects abilities and performance. The role played by motivation cognitively based on the learning process is underlined. The paper considers that it is necessary to promote self-evaluation versus external evaluation together with those systems that promote the development of intrinsic motivation for learning.
