Abstract

This document is about the evolution of contemporary sculpture, regarding its intrusion into the architectural and urban environment, through the work of the sculptor Anish Kapoor, a clear example of this mimesis between different artistic disciplines. At first, there is an analysis of certain key points about the change of conception of art, in the social and political context of the early XX century. Then, a consideration about the contact points between sculpture and architecture, and the new cultural concepts that both society and the artist fa ce in the search for new languages. Kapoor is framed to Kapoor in a contemporary sculptural context, along with other artists such as Olafur Eliasson or James Turrell. Studying the meaning of Anish Kapoor's work, its multidisciplinary essence and its approach to the urban scale, will allow us to understand better, from a practical example, how contemporary art can be formalized, and what its new objectives are: immateriality, interaction and the emotional-conceptual experience. Finally, due to the incursion of the sculpture in the field of architecture through the change of scale, it will be necessary to make available to the sculptor sufficient technical and constructive means. The technique becomes an accomplice of the sculptural project.
