Resumo
Virgilio Sevillano Carbajal (1890-1975) was a diplomat from Zamora interested in archaeology and ancient history. Between 1958 and 1960, at the end of his professional career, he worked as a counselor and ambassador in the legations of Spain in Lebanon and Jordan, which helped him to get in touch with what he called «the archaeologists’ paradise». His passion for the historical past led him to create an important collection of antiquities during the three years he was living in the Near East. Virgilio Sevillano had reiterated to his relatives the willingness to donate, after his death, his personal collections to a museum in his native land. In 1984, the oriental legacy of Sevillano entered the Museum of Zamora. Since 2016, a joint project between the museum and the University of Coruña has been started to carry out its study.
