Resumen

The higher education institutions play a fundamental role in the field of promoting active aging in response to demographic changes of European population in this century. A set of programs for seniors (belonging to universities and non-formal education institutions) in Germany, Italy and the UK, are analysed by highlighting their main features and differences. There is a real heterogeneity in existing programas with the predominance of public universities (as in the case of Germany and Spain) or of other non-formal education institutions (as in Italy and the UK), with a multiplicity of subjects with a more academic approach, in the case of the first, or from a more practical perspective, in the case of the latter, and where intergenerationality, or degree of contact with younger students also presents a gradient from high (Germany and UK ) to low (Italy and Spain), showing a wide panorama in methodologies, structures and programs that varies greatly in quality and functionality.
