Abstract

During the characterization tests carried out with the biomass ashes coming from the pulp and paper industry, certain cementing properties were observed. Thus, it was decided to carry out a comparative study among the compressive and flexural strengths of this ashes mixed with water and conventional materials such as clay, cement and plaster. In addition, density and shrinkage were studied. The results obtained show that biomass ashes have a similar behavior to clay, but lighter and suffering a lower shrinkage. However, its mechanical properties are far away from plaster�s, and specially, cement�s.
