Resumo
In the professional practice of architecture women are affected by a particular and specific quandaries unconnected with standard and dominant procedures in an essentially male. The study of female architects specifically in the region of Galicia, should be used to better understand the current situation, and contribute new insights and ideas for the professional practice of architecture in regard to greater gender equality. Two of the initial tasks of the research project "Galician Women Architects" are presented in this paper, in specifically, the development of a database of Galician female architects and the conclusions of an online survey on the professional practice of these women. From these conclusions, a set of new proposals were identified which could contribute to improve equality in the profession. Finally the role of education cannot be underestimated in regard to the awareness and promotion of women in architecture.
