Abstract

Americo Castro showed great interest in etymological studies before the Spanish Civil War, but little is known about his generous collaboration with Joan Coromines when editing the Diccionario critico etimologico castellano (DCEC). In this paper I attempt to assess Castro's contributions, taking into consideration not only the references in DCEC itself but the two philologists' correspondence during half a century, which provides valuable information.
