Abstract
The aim of the study is to analyze, in a sample of university students (n=258), the differences by appraisal of stressful situations in academic settings, the employment of coping strategies and the response of stress, according to the levels of academic self-efficacy beliefs (low, average and high self- efficacy). The results corroborate the existence of a significant negative relationship between the level of academic perceived self-efficacy and the degree in which the student evaluates different academic situations in terms of the threat to his own wellbeing, as well as the indexes of physical and psychological symptoms of distress. This relation is inverted in the case of coping strategies, which reveals the existence of a positive and significant correlation between the level of perceived self-efficacy and active managing, both behavioral and cognitive, of stress.
