Resumen
From an ordinary observation of the results of the encounters immediately prior to the last match (21 April 2012) between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid football clubs, one could conclude that the Madrid team had greater possibilities of victory. From the study of certain performance variables and indicators in this same sequence of matches between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, however, analysis made prior to the encounter of April 2012, the performance trend of Real Madrid against FC Barcelona had been rising, consequent on which, one could understand that the team’s statistical options of victory had risen in the following match. After the match, and having examined the values of the performance indicators selected, it turned out that in three of the indicators studied, Real Madrid achieved or exceeded the values estimated to be necessary to reverse the trend in results of the encounters with FC Barcelona over the last 2 years. The three recommended values achieved by Real Madrid were: the best differential of balls recovered/lost compared to the list of the same variables of FC Barcelona, the % of shots reaching the goal objective (between the three posts), and the % of goals scored. The final result of the match, (FC Barcelona 1- 2 Real Madrid), was congruent with the values of the performance indicators that this study proposed as determining factors to raise the possibility of success for Real Madrid in this match, while altering the chain of results in favour of FC Barcelona.
