Resumen
Background: Leukocyte and platelet rich fibrin (L-PRF) is considered a biomaterial that can play an important role in wound healing and tissue repair / regeneration. Objective: This study focused on confirming the effectiveness of (L-PRF) compared to standard cures with nitrofurazone ointment on post-surgical bleeding, intensity of post-surgical pain, inflammation, infection, analgesic intake and healing period of the postoperative wound, in patients with bilateral onicocriptosis treated with chemical matricectomies with 88% phenol. Method: Twenty healthy patients between 18 and 65 years of age who presented bilateral onicocriptosis (n = 40) were selected and received both cures bilaterally, one in each Hallux of the patient. The interventions were performed in a clinic specialized in foot and ankle surgery. The two types of cures were randomized to each Hallux of the patient and thus 20 Hallux were established with cures with (L-PRF) (experimental group) and 20 Hallux with cures with nitrofurazone ointment (control group), so that each patient had received the Two types of cure. The patients were blinded, so they did not know that Hallux had received the different cure. Results: Statistically significant differences (p <0.001) were found between both groups in the postsurgical hemorrhage and in the wound healing period, showing a reduction in bleeding and days respectively with the priests with (L-PRF) compared with the nitrofurazone ointment cure. The rest of the variables did not show statistically significant differences (p> 0.05). Conclusions: (L-PRF) compared to standard cures with nitrofurazone poamada in chemical matricectomies with 88% phenol reduced the period of wound healing and bleeding after nail surgery. Therefore, FRPL can be considered a first-line adjuvant treatment for patients with nail problems that require surgical procedures.
