Abstract

Introduction:This dissertation unwrapped a synthesis of the implementation of environmental protection areas – APA in the West Coast of Ceará – Brazil, making analysis of its socio-environmental characteristics, anda management tools. Content research: Legally it was proposed to evaluate these APAs to meet the criteria of the Brazilian environmental protection legislation, in particular the National System of Units Conservation (SNUC). Conclusion:How results sought research help for the cast of Ceará, as research hypotheses were concluded as true: that the four environmental protection areas studied did not meet its mission to protect he natural and cultural heritage, because now management is performed so fragmented and under some criteria for environmental preservation divergent interest, there is no real delineation of protected natural systems as areas protected by state law, do not respond to sets built from environmentally or culturally.
