Abstract

In this research, given the importance of economics in modern society and the challenges posed by our school system, we propose the following objectives: to study the official state and regional curricula for economics and business economics in high school and look at how the regions have developed their own curriculum based on the state model. Secondly, to carry out a content analysis of the textbooks which are most widely used in the classrooms of the Balearic Islands to teach economics at high school. We want to determine to what extent these books fit the Balearic curriculum, what kind of activities are proposed, what their bibliographic sources are, what errors have been detected etc.. And the third line of research is to examine how teachers in our region approach the teaching of economics. We intend, thus to provide some guidelines and basic principles that will enable us to progress towards the development of a teaching methodology for economics.
