Abstract
Many of the activities carried out by the glass, chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, textile, paving, fertilizer and metallurgical industries-among othersinvolve using boron in their processes. Boron compounds are not retained during the treatment process carried out in the waste treatment plants. They are therefore reintroduced into the environment and boron becomes a pollution marker or trace. Because boron concentrations of over 2 mgll in irrigation water can harm certain crops, it may be necessary to restrict its use. This study was done to examine the chemical qualit y of the Ferrol ría in terms ofthe element boron. A factor taken into account was the various ways pollution came into this body ofwater. The conclusion reached was that boron pollution has not affected the ría
