Abstract

Tourniquet syndrome is uncommon alteration, it basically appears in small baby. It affects several external corporal appendices, like fingers and toes or external genitals. The origin is a strangulation of the appendix caused by hairs or threads. In toes, the strangulation causes an obstruction that has an effect on circulatory system, giving rise to semiology according to deep and time of the injury evolution. The main signs are redding and edema; a cyanotic coloration at the risk of a ischemic necrosis happens in the tissues appears at a late phase. A detailed exploration determines the cause of the alteration with the help of siting and extraction of originating agent. Sometimes, when the agent remains in hiding under the subcutaneous tissues, it¿s necessary a surgical approach to find and remove the wholehair or thread that cause the tourniquet. The delay in an accurate diagnosis and/or the total remove of the originating agent can involve an amputation of the distal portion hurted segment.
